Introduction

Turmeric  (scientific name - Curcuma longa) is a perennial herbaceous plant with long oblong leaves reach about 01 metre height. Turemeric belongs to ginger (zingiberaceae) family and Native to Southern India and Indonesia.

The iconic golden yellow colour of turmeric caused by curcumin.

Use of turmeric dates back to nearly 4000 years to Vedic culture in India.In Hindu culture turmeric is sacred and auspicious. In Sanskrit turmeric has at least 53 names and the word turmeric is from Latin word terra merita (meaning = meritorious earth).

In ayurvedic medicine, believed that turmeric has the ability to increase overall strength, improve digestion,regulate menstruation, and as treatments for respiratory conditions.
