What is a Ketogenic Diet ?

Before starting the article we would like to say before starting ketogenic diets it is better to consult a nutritionist.

A ketogenic diet is a high-fat, moderate-protein and strictly very-low-carbohydrate diet. The aim of this kind of diet is to reduce carbohydrate intake of the body and this reduction of carbohydrate intake converts your body's metabolic state to a state called "ketosis". Standard Ketogenic Diet (SKD)

This is a very low carb, moderate protein and high fat diet. This is one of the most researched ketogenic diets particularly with regard to its ability to help people lose weight and reduce blood sugar levels. It typically comprises 70-75% fat, 20% protein and 5-10% carbs. 

Cyclical Ketogenic Diet (CKD)

This diet involves periods of higher carb (carbohydrate) intakes.

Ex: 05 ketogenic days followed by 02 high carb days.

Targeted Ketogenic Diet (TKD)

This type of diet allows you to add foods with carbohydrates (carbs) around your workouts.

Higher Protein Ketogenic Diet (HPKT)

Similar to  Standard Ketogenic Diet(SKD), but includes more protein as 60% fat, 35% protein, and 5% carbs.

Other Important Facts to be considered

Only the SKD and HPKT diets have been studied extensively. Cyclical Ketogenic Diets and  Targeted Ketogenic Diets are more advanced methods and primarily used by bodybuilders or athletes.

When following a ketogenic diet you should be sure to include plenty of non-starchy vegetables.
